Gradia Jämsä’s new container for vertical cultivation arrived on campus last week next to the teaching greenhouse.

Students grow variety salads and herbs in a container. Each student grows the plant of their choice from seed to a ready-to-sell product using the project learning method. The container has two parts, a small workspace, and a cultivation department. The cultivation department has a total of 25 square meters of cultivated area on three floors. The plants can also be grown all year round in Finnish winter conditions. Only 10% of water is consumed compared to conventional cultivation. During the spring, solar panels will be installed on the roof of the container, which will provide some of the electricity.

The container is manufactured by the Finnish company Novarbo OY
