Impressions from Scotland

Pia Schmidt Knudsen from Nordjyllands Landbrugsskole, Lundbæk Lundbaek Agricultural College and Sanne Baden from Green Academy JU Århus, both from Denmark,  recently returned from a job-shadowing trip to Scotland, financed by Erasmus+ and facilitated by EUROPEA-Danmark.

Conclusion from Their Visit 

During the visit, QMS provided insights into their promotion of Meat of Scotland and discussed the pros and cons of male production. They introduced their Code of Conduct/SOP for farms and addressed welfare issues and carbon footprint concerns.

They learned about QMS’s educational outreach to schoolchildren and exchanged materials for continued collaboration.

An online meeting with Red Tractor offered insights into their operations in England, farmer interactions, and extensive farm coverage. They discussed male production, farm management, and carbon footprint impacts on welfare products. Contacts will be exchanged to benefit Danish animal welfare law restructuring.

At SRUC, they discussed student motivation, campus economy, and toured farm facilities, including interactive learning and pig production.

The visit was highly successful, with valuable contacts made. Hosts agreed to stay in touch and are interested in follow-ups.

Overall, the trip exceeded expectations.
