Practical week at the LFS Kobenz: “The protective forest at your doorstep”
Protective forests play an important role in preventing natural hazards. These areas protect people, settlements, transport routes and infrastructure from natural hazards such as avalanches, landslides, rockfalls and floods. In order to fulfill this important function in the best possible way, they need special management. At the Agricultural Technical School (LFS) in Kobenz/ Murtal, 20 students experience the challenges of protective forest care (afforestation, cultural conservation) and protective forest management in the area management projects (FWPs) St. Mareiner Feuerbach and Oberweg as part of a practical week.
The LFS Kobenz prepares young people for work in agricultural and forestry businesses. The practical application of what has been learned is a particular focus of the training. Once a year, special practical days are a highlight in the LFS Kobenz annual program. This year, together with the Forestry Service for Torrent and Avalanche Control (WLV) and the Styrian State Forestry Service, we managed to integrate these practical days into the Protective Forest Week, which is being celebrated throughout Austria this week.
