Volunteering in gardening is a fantastic way to help others in their gardens, while working as a team and learning new skills. Ten students from Yuverta chr.vmbo Ottoland school, accompanied by three teachers, visited us (“Tamási Áron” Agricultural and Industrial Vocational School, Bors). After we got to know the students in a playful way, we visited the perennial ornamental garden of one of our former students. Every year, the Dutch team comes to Kiskereki, Romania, to beautify and freshen the green area of the school and the church, using the money they collect. Participation in the care of the school garden is reserved for the school’s students. Our school team was represented by 3 students (Dávid Nagy 11th grade, László Kupás 11th grade and Szabolcs Belovai 10th grade) and two teachers. During the joint work, we adjusted the paving stones of the school’s backyard and planted bulbous ornamental plants, tulips and daffodils.
Why was it good to help together?
We could meet new people and make friends. We actively recommend it for nature conservation and sustainability. We were able to learn new gardening techniques, teamwork and organizational skills. We could practice English. Gardening is known to relieve stress and improve mood.
