In 2010 during the EUROPEA General Assembly in La Louvière, Belgium EUROPEA Belgium organised a photo contest on biodiversity for students. Charel Klein, a Luxembourgish student heard of it from a schoolmate and decided to try his luck to win the prize, a good digital camera. He had none at that time and used a smartphone to shoot his competing pictures. Even if he lacked a proper camera, he obviously didn’t lack talent, because he ended up winning the 1st prize!
Since then, equipped with his new high-end camera, he started seriously to do nature photography. The results are breathtaking, look for yourself at www.charel-klein-photography.com. At the moment Charel is still studying forest management and environment, but he has not ruled out to become a professional nature photographer. It will stay an important part of his life for sure. During his leisure time he is often out in the field, sometimes accompanied by the best outdoor photographers of Luxembourg. Last week a photo of one of this expeditions even competed for the best photo of the day at National Geographic.
This story is a beautiful example of how our work at EUROPEA or in school can influence the life of a student. Especially activities outside the normal school lessons prove to be particularly prone to leave a lasting impression and to set the impulses for his future life.
