In the International Flower Carpet Competition held in Ventspils (LT), teams from Tartu and Räpina School of Horticulture won the double victory.
On August 2 and 3, the 19th International Flower Carpet Festival took place on Ventspils Promenade. The theme was “Flower Melody”. At the competition, 20 teams of florists from five different countries (one team from Belarus, two teams from Estonia, nine teams from Latvia, seven teams from Lithuania and one team from Russia) demonstrated their skills and flight of mind. At the same time, the city celebrated its birthday with parades, competitions, concerts and big fireworks.
The main prize award at the International Flower Carpet Festival “Flower Melody” was awarded to florists from Estonia (graduates of Räpina School of Horticulture), a flower carpet “Melody”. The second place was awarded to the second Estonian team from Räpina School of Horticulture, a flower carpet “Equalizer”. The third place gained by team from Russia, St. Petersburg with the carpet “Pobre Flor Vals” (“Poor Flower’s Waltz”). People’s favourite prize was awarded to Latvian team, Ventspils with the carpet “Lai skan!” (“Let’s hear!”). Junior’s category was won by Lithuanian team with the carpet “Летняя симфония” (“Summer Symphony”).
Each team used every minute of given 23 hours devotionally. Teams put flowers close to each-other to create bright, eye-catching floral arrangements on a geometric square rug (2,5m x 2,5m) with total area of 6,25 m2.
