From April 15 to 19, the International Week of Urban Greenery was held at the Benešov Agricultural College & Secondary School in the Czech Republic. Young gardeners from Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Spain, and the Czech Republic gathered to enhance their skills in building green roofs and explore smart urban green solutions.
Participants learned about building green roofs, using recycled materials, and designing green urban spaces. Visits to Sedum Top and Green Depot near Mělník, as well as various green projects in Prague, showcased sustainable innovations in urban greenery. A new green roof foundation was created at the guest school using recycled materials, in collaboration with BRENS EUROPE.
Students also participated in a design competition, creating green roofs for the Rudolf and Stefanie Benešov Hospital’s new pavilion using horticultural software. They presented five unique designs to an expert jury.
The event fostered new knowledge, inspiration, and friendships among participants, promoting sustainable urban planning. Organized by the Czech Centre of Excellence for Urban Greenery – Green Cities 2030+ under the European Platform for Urban Greening, this initiative aims to inspire future generations to create greener cities.
