Even though most people in Norway are on winter break, Mathilde from Mosjøen Upper Secondary School is out exploring the world, and we’ve received a travel letter!
Hello!! For the past two weeks, I have been fortunate enough to take part in the daily operations at Ardoch Farm in Scotland. The farm is located in the Dumfries & Galloway region and is a Scottish hill farm. I have been staying with the Anderson family, which consists of a family of four and the grandfather on the farm. While I’ve been here, I’ve had the opportunity to help out with their daily life as sheep farmers, including scanning and sorting, lambing, as well as joining them on a few outings. The farm has around 2,000 sheep in total, of the breeds Scottish Blackface, Scottish Mule, and Texels. They also have 60 cattle, six sheepdogs, two cats, and a Chihuahua. I was also lucky enough to join them on a farm visit to a dairy farm with 220 dairy cows! Both dairy farm and sheep farm are much, much bigger than an average Norwegian farm, so this is really something new for our student, Matilde.
