Cooperation in the field of education of the Crafts Secondary School of Jelgava and Como Vocational Education Centre
Crafts Secondary School of Jelgavahas established a long-lasting cooperation with its partners in Italy. Since 2007, the school cooperates with the agency “Europe 3000 srl” from Bergamo—this agency offers 3 month practice for bread-makers, confectioners, cooks, waiters, and retail commercial specialists. In 2011, the Crafts Secondary School of Jelgava developed a close partnership with Como Vocational Education Centre. The close friendship and cooperation opened up many possibilities for the students of the Crafts Secondary School of Jelgavato participate in Italian cuisine master-classes, led by excellent chefs and teachers from the Como Vocational Education Centre in Lombardy: Sergio Mauri, Andrea Ballo, Fabricio Uboldi and the confectioner Linda Kiriko.
In the fourth week of November, 2018, “the Presentation of the Italian Cuisine in the World” took place. During this event, from November 19th-24th, master classes in food preparation—“the National Cuisine of the Lombardy”—were organised for the students of the cooks’ profession of Crafts Secondary School of Jelgava and the students of the Como Vocational Education Centre. In these master classes, the Italian Ambassador to Latvia, Sebastiano Fulci, participated, as well as the deputy director of the Como Vocational Education Centre, Mariachiara Bernasconi, member of the local Como council, Fabio Aloetti, and the deputy head of Jelgava City Council, Rita Vectirāne. Led by the cooks’ teacher of the Como Vocational Education Centre, Massimiliano Tansini, both the Italian students and the students of the Crafts Secondary School of Jelgava showed their skills in Jelgava, as well as in Rundale castle restaurant, where they prepared a dinner for the guests of the Italian Embassy.
At the same time, friendship evenings were organised for the students, as well as introduction of historical places in Jelgava, Rīga, Cēsis, and Valmiera to the Italian guests.
