Martin Hornsleth and Majbritt Pedersen from Gråsten Landbrugsskole in Denmark recently visited the agricultural school VABI in Roeselare, Belgium. Their stay was supported by EUROPEA Denmark and funded by Erasmus+.
Their focus?
🔍 How can we better design subject-specific courses for non-Danish speaking students?
🔍 How is English taught in a practical and engaging way at agricultural schools in Belgium?
Key takeaways:
✔️ Active student involvement is key – through varied methods, hands-on learning, and plenty of feedback.
✔️ English classes focused on presentation, information gathering, and real-life applications – including the use of ChatGPT as a conversation partner!
✔️ Belgian agriculture and local culture were used actively to give context to the lessons.
✔️ Social activities are crucial for building relationships and encouraging English communication among students.
What’s next?
This experience inspires us to:
🧠 Integrate ChatGPT into our English lessons
🤝 Strengthen the social side of international courses
🗣️ Ensure that every student gets to speak and use English in meaningful ways
Great inspiration for making our international teaching even better! 🌍✨
