This autumn, LBTU Malnava College launched a new short-cycle professional higher education program, Woodworking Technologies, and the first ten study contracts have already been signed. Graduates of the program will earn the qualification of Woodworking Technologist, fully aligned with national standards and professional requirements.
The program combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience, delivered both at Malnava College’s modern learning facilities and at partner companies. Students praised the structured curriculum, which starts with basic concepts and gradually advances to complex, real-world applications, giving them skills directly applicable in the woodworking industry.
Program Director Vilnis Jakovļevs commented: “This program provides students with modern, labor-market-oriented education that combines theory with practical experience. It will make a valuable contribution to the development and competitiveness of Latvia’s woodworking sector.”
The program was developed in close cooperation with industry partners, including SIA Avoti, and is supported by the EU Recovery Fund project “Strengthening LBTU Institutional Capacity for Excellence in Studies and Research.” In the future, Malnava College plans to expand training with robotic technologies, further enhancing students’ competencies in modern woodworking.
