At Liceul Tehnologic Agroindustrial “Tamási Áron” School in Romania, students can gain qualifications in field crop production, horticulture and agrotourism.
As the school does not yet have its own training farm, practical education takes place at partner companies. This gives students the chance to learn in real working environments, side by side with professionals. In the 11th grade, practical training lasts ten weeks, with students working six hours a day. As usually only one or two students are placed at each company, they can receive much more individual guidance and hands-on experience. The practical training period is taking place right now, and the activities are as varied as agriculture itself. Some students are involved in the maize harvest, which is producing record-low yields in our region this year due to the extremely dry weather.Others are gaining experience in flower shops,while students specialising in agrotourism are learning traditional food preparation techniques in rural guesthouses. The teacher responsible for practical training keeps in regular contact with the students through online calls, checking their progress and discussing the work they are doing. At the end of the ten weeks, students create a visual report using photos and videos from their placements and present their experiences to their classmates. For our students, practical training is not just about learning a profession – it is about experiencing the real world of work, with its opportunities, challenges and sometimes even its surprises.
