Local Producers’ Product Showcase at Our School

As autumn comes to an end and bad weather sets in, our agricultural and horticultural students no longer participate in practical activities at our partner companies, as the weather conditions no longer allow it. Instead, theoretical and laboratory classes are held at the school.

A class has seven lessons each day. There are days when the same teacher conducts all seven consecutive lessons. To ensure that being in the classroom doesn’t become monotonous, we try to add something interesting to these days as well.

For this reason, today we invited two guests (local producers) who both work in the green sector to showcase what they do.

One of the guests was a lady who produces cold-pressed oils in her small family business from various plant seeds such as walnut, pumpkin seed, fennel, flax seed, poppy seed, and hemp seed. She explained that this production process preserves all the beneficial and valuable components of the oils, ensuring they remain entirely healthy. Some oils are made for culinary purposes, while others can also be used as medicine. To the students’ delight, they also had the opportunity to taste the oils with their unique flavors.

The second guest was a local beekeeper who has 150 bee colonies. She talked about the unique characteristics of bees, how beneficial these creatures are for planet Earth, how organized they are in carrying out their work, and how many valuable and healthy delicacies we humans receive from them.

He also mentioned that beekeeping is becoming increasingly challenging year by year, as climate change and the excessive use of chemicals are both weakening the bee populations. Afterward, we had the opportunity to taste four types of honey: linden, acacia, rapeseed, and mixed flower honey.

By the time the students had tasted all the delicacies, the school library smelled so wonderful from the fine oils and fragrant honeys that we had almost forgotten about the snow falling in large flakes outside.
