Dear Europea Colleagues,
We hope you are all well. In Teagasc programmes (EQF Level 4 and Level 5), there is a significant focus at this time of the year on a Practical Learning Period (PLP) on Irish farms. This is co-ordinated by a Teagasc national PLP specialist in partnership with colleges who place students on host farms to suit their learning needs and enterprise preferences (for example dairy, beef, sheep, crops and machinery). The Teagasc PLP provides the learner with real-life work practice and is a key component of Teagasc Education programmes. At national level, Teagasc quality assures each of its training hosts. Learners can only be placed with hosts that have been vetted and who attend update training sessions. During PLP, learners are monitored by tutors and feedback is given to the learner and the host.
Agricultural Colleges are also running a series of open days which take place each spring which allow prospective students and their parents to experience each college.
The video on the link below was developed by Teagasc to show students the range of skills which they can learn in a vocational course in the land-based (green) sector
See the Teagasc website for further details on open days: https://www.teagasc.ie/education/going-to-college/college-open-days/
