AGRYA (Association of Young Farmers of Hungary) was founded in 1996 with the aim to enforce the interests of its members, facilitate professional decision making and help the development of newly started enterprises. Another important objective has been to cut down the desolation of rural areas.

One of the most efficient AGRYA projects started in order to achieve these goals is called Rural Adventures. The idea is to bring young city people to the country and give them a deeper insight into how agriculture really works and what is it like to be a farmer. Anybody between 18 and 35 is welcome to hand in an application and if accepted they would spend a week-long working holiday on a farm of a young entrepreneur taking part in daily activities and helping farmers with all the actual jobs.

Moreover, adventurers are asked to write a blog on daily basis and upload pictures or videos of their experiences onto a given website advertising in this way not only the project but agriculture, food production and trading as well.

The programme has proved to be very popular and it has been successfully carried out for the past five years. What is more, in 2012 it was voted among the best three communication projects out of 118 by the EC’s DG-AGRI (Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development).

The 2015 edition of Rural Adventures is in full swing right now and is as rewarding as ever. Check the pics and blogs of this year’s adventurers here or go to the AGRYA Facebook page.
