The FOREE Project Leads Forestry Education into the Future Across Europe

By: Katrin Uurman

For the past two years, Luua Forestry School has been actively contributing to the international FOREE project (Forestry Education for European Educators), aimed at modernizing and enhancing forestry education to meet contemporary needs.

Luua Forestry School has played a vital role in the project: the school’s teachers have been actively involved in developing and testing pilot courses, providing valuable feedback on course content and practicality. Moreover, the school has spearheaded international discussions on transforming traditional classroom learning into flexible hybrid education, combining digital tools with practical skills.

As part of the project, the first Train-the-Trainer (ToT) courses and a MOOC have been developed, focusing on renewing adult forestry training. Pilot courses have already been held in Estonia, Austria, and Germany, implementing new educational concepts tailored to the modern challenges of the forestry sector.

The next significant milestone is the upcoming international English-language MOOC, “Blended Learning in Forestry Education,” which is now open for registration. This course provides an opportunity to explore innovative teaching models and gain inspiration for shaping the future of forestry education. More information and registration can be found on the FOREE website: www.foree.eu.

Luua Forestry School’s contribution demonstrates how educational institutions can enrich international projects with their expertise and experience while making a significant impact on the development of forestry education across Europe.
