Wellantcollege tops ranking of sustainable VET schools in the Netherlands

Wellantcollege ranks as most sustainable VET school in the Netherlands. According to the annual SustainaBul ranking, a national competition to stimulate and inspire sustainable development in education, Wellantcollege leads the rankings for VET providers in 2020.

The award ceremony took place on December 11th, at the closing event of the symposium Sustainable Thinking & Doing, organized by the cooperative Leren voor Morgen (Learning for Tomorrow; a collective dedicated to implement sustainability in education, from primary schools to research universities).

Why Wellantcollege is named the most sustainable VET school

Wellant scored high with the VET training ‘Livable City and Climate’, where future professionals learn to make sustainable and conscious choices in their field of work. Also highlighted were the international projects by Wellant, such as the realization of a European Platform for Urban Greening, in cooperation with partners in Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Romania, and Spain.

Another illustration is the ERASDG project where international student teams from Austria, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Spain and the Netherlands tackle authentic learning challenges related to the SDGs. A third example how internationalisation fosters sustainability at Wellantcollege, is the short-term (online) training offer on environmentally friendly and food safety agriculture for countries outside the EU.

Additionally, the sustainable business operations and Wellant’s collaboration with business and societal partners in the regional Hotspots helped improve the final score.

Gabe van der Zee, Member of the Executive Board, says he’s very proud of this award: “Wellantcollege wants to train professionals who put sustainable thinking and doing at the core of their profession. You can see that in our curricula and business operations, but what I like even more is to see its impact on our students. They are so committed and enterprising. It proves we are on the right track. In the coming years we will continue to embed sustainability in all activities.
