CitroBeauty, a serum made from discarded citrus fruit, wins the first youth entrepreneurship lab held at CIFEA Lorca
CIFEA Lorca hosted the first edition of Zagalab, a youth entrepreneurship lab promoted by FADEMUR Murcia with the National Reference Centre for Livestock and funded by the Regional Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Region of Murcia. Aimed at people aged 16 to 40, it promotes innovation and entrepreneurship in the agri-food sector, with special attention to young rural women.
Participants worked in teams on real challenges such as digitalisation, water management, the circular economy, agri-food processing and rural diversification, and received training in digital tools and artificial intelligence. After discussion, two priority areas were chosen: efficient and sustainable water management, and rural diversification linked to animal welfare. The programme consisted of six sessions and a visit to the regenerative farm La Junquera.
It ended on 23 September 2026 with a Demo Day. The winning project was CitroBeauty, by students from IES Príncipe de Asturias in Lorca: an anti-blemish vitamin C serum made from citrus fruit discarded by industry because of its size. As a prize, they will receive a masterclass from Manuela Simón García, rural entrepreneur and founder of the organic cosmetics brand Botón de Oro.
